A group of Sheffield based individuals who choose to ACT!
We fundraise to fund the things that traditional budgets simply do not cover.
We run a Tea Bar and charity shop as well as community based social fundraising activities.
Our volunteers vary in ages, race, ability and gender. We are a safe and supportive space to enable our volunteers to enjoy their experience and reach any personal goal.
We are proud to be members of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations which gives us the up-to-date guidance on best practise.
League of Friends was established in 1969 by Mrs Monica Beck who recruited some of her friends to help from League of Friends Northern General Hospital.
We started with Monica and her friends selling beverages and cakes on the foyer to the Clock Tower wards they eventually set up a trolley service for the rest of the hospital's wards.

The trolleys supplied soft drinks, confectionery and basic essentials such as tissues, toothpaste etc. They were so successful at raising funds that the hospital offered them a café facility on the Huntsman foyer and a tea bar on Brearley Wing managed by volunteer Terri Poole.
In addition to these sources of income Monica organised a fete on the playing fields, now the site of the spinal unit, regular raffles and several car boot sales. From these funds the League were able to help fund the first MRI scanner at the NGH.
Similarly in 1980 League of Friends Royal Hallamshire was formed by Kate Neal, they started selling donated goods in a shop on A floor given to us by the hospital.
In 2011, Kate Neal from Royal Hallamshire League of Friends wished to retire. League of Friends Northern General and Royal Hallamshire League of Friends decided to incorporate together to create League of Friends Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This allowed us to unite our funding and means we can now provide support to all five of the hospitals under the trust.
In its history League of Friends has donated nearly a million pounds to Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This has been over many projects great and small, from radios to patients to a great big helipad at the NGH a&e department.
WE hope to continue supporting and providing valuable funding and services to Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for many years.
